MEDICAL ASSISTING

Diploma Program

Educational Objectives:

The educational objective of this program is to provide the graduate with entry level positions in doctors’ offices, clinics, urgent health care centers, and other medical facilities.  The graduate should be able to carry out clinical procedures such as vital signs, routine office-lab procedures, EKG, venipuncture, preparing the patient for physical exams and assisting the physician with these exams.  The Medical Assistant may help the physician in minor surgical procedures and can sterilize and care for the instruments.  The Medical Assistant is expected to effectively handle administrative office procedures such as typing, billing, scheduling, insurance claims, and computer operations. The Medical Assistant possesses a thorough understanding of ethical principles and applies them in dealing with the contractual doctor-patient relationship.

As more patients seek professional services, an increasing number of Medical Assistants are required to handle the many responsibilities delegated to them.  Doctors then have more time to practice medicine and attend to the health care of the community.
