EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVE

The objective of the program is to provide graduates with working knowledge of word-processing, spreadsheets, presentations, email, and an introduction to database management and website design. Graduates will be prepared for entry-level positions in a computerized office setting. This program is designed for men and women with or without prior computer skills.

 

Representative job titles should include Administrative Assistant, Secretary, Office Assistant, Computer Assistant or other positions involving working knowledge of computer applications.

Course Outline:

CS100 INTRODUCTION TO WEBSITE DESIGN - Credit Hours: 2

Students will learn how to develop, manage, and edit a website. Along with understanding basic HTML (Hyper Text Markup Language) coding, students will also learn how to create interactive forms, import images and troubleshooting techniques using a text editor.

 

CS101 PRESENTATIONS and EMAIL - Credit Hours: 1

Students will learn techniques to set-up, receive, save and communicate via computer email. Get up and running with the most important aspects of email software and even create a personal email account for class assignments and personal use. Students will learn how to communicate with groups of individuals through presentations, overhead transparencies, slides, and paper handouts. Students will learn techniques in developing slides and signs while incorporate text, objects and styles. Students will prepare a variety of presentations.

 

CS102 WORD PROCESSINBG I for WINDOWS - Credit Hours: 3

Students will learn to use a computer word-processing package with emphasis on creating, storing and retrieving text. Skills will include searching and replacing text, utilizing page editing and formatting tools, printing, creating specialized form letters, mail and envelope merging, and label creation.

 

CS103 SPREADSHEETS for EXCEL - Credit Hours: 3

Students will learn to use a spreadsheet package with emphasis on basic spreadsheet creation, editing and formatting techniques. Students will complete a project using some advanced printing report-generating techniques, advanced formulas and multiple file manipulation.

 

CS104 DATABASE MANAGEMENT - Credit Hours: 3

Students will learn the concepts and uses of database management. They will learn how to design and modify a database, edit contents, search for specific data and arrange data. Students will learn how to create command files, made decisions within a program and troubleshoot using various debugging techniques. Students will process a database project.
